Exceptional

Our family had a wonderful holiday at the hotel. The staff was always in touch and responded to any request immediately. Khamis Ali was extremely kind and really helped us out on our last day. We forgot our camera at the hotel and remembered it only when we arrived at the airport. Khamis did the impossible - he sent a driver with a camera in a short time and 5 minutes before boarding closed, he arrived and handed over our forgotten things. We are very grateful to him. It is not every day that you meet such responsive people. We recommend everyone to stay for a holiday at wonderful hotel The Sand Beach resort.

Love this beautiful island treasure

This is my 2nd time here and I absolutely love it here.

It’s pretty far drive from the usual hotspots of the island so you will be paying quite a bit for taxis. But the place is worth it.

Idyllic - thank you Ally and team for all the hard work to make it so perfect.

I liked the scale of the resort - it felt very select, personal and friendly. Lovely gardens, plenty of sun beds at the beach and sofas by the beach bar, with a lovely atmosphere in the restaurant and lounge area in the evening. The food was amazing, especially the grilled fish. Ally (manager) was always present especially during dining and the staff were so welcoming. I loved the resort and hope to return.

There could have been more shade around the pool - but really this so picky - there’s little to not like.

Excellent staff gave us a five star experience!

Best service we have ever encountered in a hotel. Ally and the other staff made sure they knew every guest by name, there was never a need to provide our room number at the buffet, and they were always up for a chat. We felt very welcome and looked after. From Helena’s infectious smile, Peter, and Kelvin’s chat, and the impromptu Swahili lessons. When they heard our taxi on checkout day wasn’t until 4pm, they let us keep our room until it arrived. The restaurant was also a standout, with delicious fresh caught fish on the grill every day for my partner, and lots of lovely vegetarian options for myself. And they really mean it when they say they can make off menu options. The hotel is in Dongwe which is a little further from the touristy areas, but Paje is a manageable taxi ride if you want to shop for souvenirs or take up kite surfing. And the hotel can arrange excursions to the big attractions on the island. Presentation is generally excellent and the atmosphere is very chilled. Would recommend the pina coladas for a proper treat!

Very luxurious resort with full service and great food. Lovely band playing at the dinner and coffe at the beach every afternoon. We made a misstake in the booking and the hotel handled it in a very professional way. Above all - Ali took care of us like royals.

Dream of Zanzibar

Location is fantastic, beautiful, far from busy touristic area but close to nice spots. It is very clean, modern houses, enough sunbed. Very delicious food. Super kind service. Our 2 bedrooms villa was big and modern. Well designed. Ali, you are a real magic of this place with your kindness and friendly atmosphere that you can create. We are happy to return.

At the beach it can be windy close to the ocean but few steps back where no wind is it would be useful to have some sunbeds.

Loved the vibe and the staff. Especially Mr Ali the host, and Cassiano and Hassan Boy at the beach bar.

Clean, well laid out and thought through.

The standard bungalow has more than enough space for a table and 2 chairs inside. Unfortunately we could only sit in the bed.

Beautiful hotel with fantastic staff. Food a real let down.

Beautiful location with a stunning beach. Staff are extremely friendly and helpful. Very clean rooms and housekeeping always present to clean throughout the day. Manager also very helpful and supportive. I felt very safe in this hotel unlike other hotels on the island.

The food was really quite average. The chef very keen to improve but unfortunately the food quality was not up to standards for what we were paying and this was the only real down point of the stay. The. food lacks flavour and seasoning and meat.poultry/fish is always overcooked. Disappointing. Breakfast. was good but lacked variety so we had the same food every day and the pastries were all stale. The beach boys are also very persistent which is a shame. I don't mind them trying their luck to sell stuff but when they follow you into the sea to get a tour booked, this is completely unacceptable. Other resorts had security by the beach to prevent this which is what I would recommend. We stayed in the "sea-facing" bungalow but there were 3 bungalows ahead of us that had far better views, ours was literally a slither of the ocean so don't think it is fair to call it sea-facing!

The resort surpassed all our expectations. The family villa was incredibly spacious and spotlessly clean, with twice-daily room service! We were delighted by the beautiful location, offering breathtaking scenic views of the beach. The lush garden and peaceful beachside setting added to the serene atmosphere, perfect for relaxation. What truly sets this resort apart is its limited number of rooms and villas spread across a large area, providing an exclusive and intimate stay that allows guests to fully enjoy the tranquility and privacy it offers. However, the standout feature of this resort is undoubtedly the staff. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with warm smiles and genuine hospitality. The staff members were incredibly friendly and attentive, consistently going above and beyond to ensure our stay was memorable and enjoyable. Their genuine care and eagerness to assist made us feel valued and well taken care of throughout our entire stay.

While we didn't mind the mesmerizing tides that gracefully ebbed and flowed with a perfect view from the beach bar, it's important to note that if you're a passionate swimmer, you should be mindful of the strong tidal movements along the otherwise stunning white sandy beach.

Island bliss!

1. The service from every staff member is more than exceptional. The moment you arrive you are greeted with warm hospitality. 2. Rooms are spacious and sparkly clean. 3. Breakfast and dinner were delicious with various options suitable even for my picky teens. Every night there is a grill with the catch of the day. The ambience amazing! 4. Location is 10 minutes away from local town and 15 minutes away from Paje if you are looking for a more busy vibe. 5. The beach bar set up and beach area are totally serene, better than the pictures. 6. Beach: note that swimming is possible during high tide, which happened every day around 2pm and lasted for a good few hours. During this time you will experience soft warm turquoise Indian Ocean waters perfect for a dip. Special mentions: Ally who is the manager on duty will go over and above to ensure your stay is perfect. The reception and restaurant staff ( Hamida, Chef Hassan, Semeni, Khamis, and so many others whose names are too many to mention) Thanks for a wonderful stay! We will be back!

A friendly, quiet place to stay with an excellent beach. Excellent food!

The staff and service was excellent. Staff were pleasant, friendly, and always ensuring our comfort. If there were any hiccups or special requests they were met with a positive response and immediate action. The food was amazing as well as the cocktails at the beach bar.

The air conditioning seemed to not work consistently. We were told this is due to a temporary issue with the electrical transformer feeding the resort and they needed to run a generator to power the air conditioning units in all the villas. They'd keep it off unless someone requested air conditioning. We always ended up asking for it to be turned on in the evenings, I hope their electrical system can be repaired so that they don't need the generator I the future.

The staff were exceptionally friendly And friendly attend to our needs Bangalore was very clean Loved the inside with coconut trees. Begonville plants fencing amazing Clean beach/ setting area. The quiet/ tranquil.

No evening entertainment There are no lights towards the beach Couldn't go for a walk on the beach at night times After dinner we had to go to our Bangalore . Electric power kept going off Sometime in the middle of a shower.
